About the Lorem Ipsum Generator

Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin used as stand-in text so a layout can be judged without anyone reading the words. This generator builds as many paragraphs, sentences or words as you need from the traditional vocabulary, with sentences of varied length so the text wraps like real copy, and can open with the familiar Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet line.

What you can do

• Generate 1 to 50 paragraphs, sentences or words.
• Start with the classic opening phrase, or turn it off for fully random text.
• Get sentences of 6 to 15 words and paragraphs of 3 to 7 sentences, separated by blank lines.
• Copy the result with one button.

When it works best

• Filling a wireframe, mock-up or theme demo before the real copy is written.
• Testing how a card, table cell or text field copes with long and short content.
• Seeding a development database with descriptions that look like prose.

Things to know

• Text is generated in your browser and nothing is saved.
• Output is plain text with no HTML tags, headings or lists.
• The vocabulary is Latin only, so it will not reveal how a design handles long German words or right-to-left scripts.
• Placeholder text can slip into production, so search for lorem before you launch. To count words in your final copy, use the Word Counter.
