About the Password Generator

Strong passwords are long and random, which is exactly what people are bad at inventing. This generator builds a password from the character sets you pick, using the browser's cryptographically secure random number source, and estimates its strength from the length and size of the character pool. You can make anything from a 4-character PIN-style code to a 128-character secret.

What you can do

• Set any length from 4 to 128 characters.
• Include or exclude lowercase letters, uppercase letters, digits and symbols.
• See a strength rating of Weak, Medium, Strong or Very strong, based on estimated entropy.
• Press Generate as often as you like, then copy the password.

When it works best

• Creating a new password for an account that you will save straight into a password manager.
• Generating database passwords, API secrets or Wi-Fi keys for a new setup.
• Making a password that fits a site with strict rules, such as no symbols.

Things to know

• Passwords are made in your browser with crypto.getRandomValues and are never sent or stored.
• Each character is drawn at random from the whole pool, so a short password may not contain every selected type; generate again if a site insists on one of each.
• The symbol set is fixed. Some systems reject characters such as quotes or brackets, so turn symbols off if a password is refused.
