About the Markdown Table Generator
Markdown tables need a header row, a separator row of dashes and pipes around every cell, which is tedious to type and easy to get wrong. This generator turns plain comma-separated rows into a ready table: the first line becomes the header, and every row gets the same number of columns. It suits README files, GitHub issues, wikis and documentation sites.
What you can do
- Write rows as comma-separated values and get a Markdown table straight away.
- Align every column left, centre or right, or keep the default alignment.
- Fill short rows with empty cells so the table never breaks.
- Trim spaces around values so the input can be written loosely.
When it works best
- Adding a comparison or options table to a README or pull request description.
- Turning a small spreadsheet selection into a table for a wiki or Notion page.
- Documenting API parameters or environment variables in a docs repository.
Things to know
- The table is built in your browser.
- Values are split on every comma, so quoted CSV fields containing commas are not supported. Cells beyond the number of header columns are dropped.
- Pipe characters inside a value are not escaped, which will break the row; replace them with \| first.
- Alignment applies to all columns at once. To check how the table renders, paste it into the Markdown Previewer.
